Summer Camp Chemistry Lab
Chemistry is a lot of fun, and seems to universally inspire curiosity in adults and kids alike. When I do my chemistry shows, there's always a packed room full of questions and awe-struck gasps between the smoke, ice, and bubbling that goes on. What is it about chemistry that makes it so fascinating? That's what this set of experiments is all about.
Introduction to Chemistry
A lot of folks get nervous around chemistry. You can't always 'see' what's going on (are there toxic gases generated from that reaction?), and many people have a certain level of fear around chemicals in general. The common fear is the generalization that chemicals are dangerous and their effects are bad. In fact, every chemical is potentially harmful if not handled properly.
That is why I've prepared a special set of chemistry experiments that include step-by-step demonstrations on how to properly handle the chemicals, use them in the experiment, and dispose of them when you're finished. There are two videos for this section on chemistry: the first covers the basics of atoms, molecules, and slime science and the second covers the chemical reaction speeds and how they combine to form new substances. Watch the top one first.
Chemistry Safety
One of the most important principles in chemistry: DO NOT RANDOMLY MIX CHEMICALS TOGETHER. This is how people get into trouble! Don't even think about reaching for household cleansers, auto part store acids, or kitchen chemicals and start experimenting. Ever. It's never worth it.
Please keep all chemicals out of reach of children and pets.
