How does salt affect plant growth, like when we use salt to de-ice snowy winter roads? How does adding fertilizer to the soil help or hurt the plants? What type of soil best purifies the water? All these questions and more can be answered by building a terrarium-aquarium system to discover how these systems are connected together.

  1. You are in the experiment part of the program. IF you want the science concepts, go to LIVE CLASSES and scroll down to the biology content (Look for Feb nearly at the bottom of the page). The lecture-type of content is in LIVE CLASSES and the experiments are under TOPICS.

Is there a lesson to go with this experiment at all? Seems like there is a lot of missing information or I just dont know where to find it.

  3. It’s for the same experiment – it goes into more depth about how to use the terrarium you just made.

hello hello. I do not understand the “how to care for your TAC ” section.it looks like uts for the different ecperiment? thank you.

  5. It depends on the type of insects you are keeping. If you want to be sure to keep all your critters inside, then keep it covered.

  6. Do you have to leave the top on the terraqua or can it remain uncovered? Or is it to keep humidity in the terraqua?
    Cheers! Love your videos!

  7. Yes – any plastic or glass container will work. I used soda bottles as a way of recycling.

Can we substitute anything for the soda bottles? Jeni – Olivia

  9. That sounds like a great idea – I will see if I can put together a video. The original issue I had when doing this for students is that everyone had a different set of things they were planting, so it was best for them to follow the package directions for the seeds and plants they were going to add.

I’m guessing the commenter below had a similar question to mine…once you build the basic Column structure…there seems to be some missing steps before we are caring for animals and plants.

Where and/or how do we get fruit flies, praying mantises or carnivorous plants? I see the link for the triops. Where does the cotton ball come into play? Is that a substitution for the wick? I can blunder through a lot of this as we have experience growing things and can just plant seeds, but I guess it would be nice to see an example of how to set up the rest of the inside beyond the water in the bottom. Thanks!

  11. The video will show you how to make the basic structure – what did you specifically need help with?

  12. Can you make step by step videos to follow please
