Photoresistors are a lot of fun, the can turn a circuit on or off based on how much light is getting to them. In this experiment we’ll see how a photoresistor can be used to turn an LED on or off.

  1. Depends on the circuit, but generally no. Most often a capacitor in a DC circuit is being used to shape the electrical current passing “by” the capacitor. Now, I say by because most often the signal isn’t passing through capacitor, but by it. Think of a a pipe with water running through it, if we add a small bottle to that pipe so that the bottle fills with water as water is running by, that’s just like a capacitor. If we turn the water off for
    just a second, the pipe starts to drain. but, because we have that bottle there, we have a little bit of water stored up to help supply water to the pipe. When the water is turned back on, both the pipe and the bottle will
    fill back up with water.

    This is what a capacitor typically is doing, holding a little electrical charge to fill in small dips in the power. In this example the water is equal to DC since the water is only flowing in one direction, and once the capacitor (our bottle) is filled up, it can’t hold anymore.

  2. On the supercharged science website, it states that capacitors allow ac to flow through them, but not dc. Considering the circuit boards have capacitors on them, is the dc from the battery converted to ac?
