Is your child READY for GEOMETRY?

Geometry is one of the oldest branches of all mathematics. “GEO METRIA” actually means “to measure the earth”. We’re going to be doing a series of three classes, and learn how to measure lengths, angles, and areas.

Geometry helps us decide what materials to use when we build things, where to point our rocket to land on Mars, what design to make our bridge or skyscraper so it is strong in the direction we need it to be, how much paint and carpet we need to buy for our house, where we should point our telescopes to find the planets and stars, figuring out when the next meteor shower will be - it’s everywhere you look!

Even in the kitchen – someone in your family may have an eye for knowing which tupperware to save leftovers in or if that parking space is too small for their truck.

Astronomy means geometry in action. Geometry is used in astronomy to measure the speed, velocity, distance, relativity and probability.

You’ll find all the recordings for the classes below before they are moved to the MATH section of this website. I hope you enjoy the geometry classes!

If you're new to homeschooling, here's the areas of math that should be covered in sequence so that it makes sense.

I've put together a short overview course for Geometry since science uses it so much when it comes to Physics. If you need a workbook recommendation, please use the links above for the same workbook set I've used with my own kids.

This first video we’re going to talk about why it’s important - are you ready?

Geometry Session 2

We are going to continue our adventures into the world of geometry through the lens of astronomy. Remember to look for how we are using math principles to model the world that is already around us. We're going to look at Neptune's orbit, hunt for new earth-like planets using math, and discover the new super-sized ring around Saturn! Be sure to take breaks when you need it, and work through the videos at your own pace!

Geometry Session 3

We are going to wrap up our hands-on math labs by looking at how astronomers measure distances using parallax, figure out the size of the sun and moon while still standing on the earth, and discover how to plot a transfer orbit from earth to mars!
