In this class, we cover safety and build our first circuit: An LED tester.
Homework: Rebuild Activity 1 by following the Section 1 Workbook instructions.
In this class, we learn about voltage and the items need to make a working circuit. We also working on Activities 2 and 4.
Homework:
First year students: Complete Activities 2 and 3
Returning students: Draw a schematic showing two circuits controlled by a single slide switch. In other words, when one circuit is on, the other circuit is off. One circuit has three LEDs in series. The other circuit has two LEDs in parallel.
In this class, we learn more about voltage, current and resistance. We also learn how to read resistor color codes.
Homework: Finish Activity 5
In this class, we learn more about resistors and tolerance. We also build Activity 9 and learn about potentiometers. We wrap up by covering schematic diagrams.
Homework:
Everyone: Activities 7 and 8
Returning students: Build the Sun Photometer activity under Earth Science Projects. Draw your own schematic and either write an explanation of the circuit or record a video explaining the circuit.
In this class, we build Activities 9, 10, and 11. We learn how potentiometers control current and demonstrate that they actually behave like two variable resistors.
Homework: Rebuild Activities 10 and 11
In this session, we learn about capacitors. We start by building Activity 12 and then review how to complete Activity 13.
Homework: Activities 12, 13, and 14
In this class, we learn more about building a circuit by following a schematic. We then learn about switches.
Homework: Try Activity 16
In this class, we build Activity 16, which uses all the parts we’ve used so far. We then learn about how to use LEDs in parallel and series circuits.
Homework:
Build Activities 17, 18, & 19.
Complete Section 1 quiz
In this class, we review the Section 1 quiz and then start on Activity 1 from the Section 2 worksheets.
Homework: Build Section 2 Activity 1 and have it ready for the next class.
